Today, the National Institute of Antimicrobial Resistance Research and Education (NIAMRRE) announced the National Institute for Animal Agriculture (NIAA)—a nonprofit that convenes and serves as a resource to leaders in the animal agriculture industry—as a new member in the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
NIAA has been a frontrunner in adopting One Health in the animal agriculture space and has a strong legacy of convening stakeholders across the food system to discuss and address current and emerging issues to support economic, environmental, and social sustainability of animal agriculture.
“NIAA is a transformative organization that is committed to the shared connection between animal, human, and environmental health,” said Dr. Paul Plummer, executive director of NIAMRRE. “Their national reach means NIAMRRE members will be able to collaborate with an expert organization that values using a One Health approach to develop AMR solutions and a group that is already an established champion of AMR stewardship.”
“The intersections of purpose between NIAA and NIAMRRE makes this an exciting partnership,” said J.J. Jones, executive director of NIAA. “Through our Annual Antibiotic Symposium, we have been fortunate to collaborate with NIAMREE to further the mission of our organization, specifically toward continuous improvement in antimicrobial stewardship.”
The Kansas-based nonprofit hosts the distinguished NIAA Annual Antibiotic Symposium—an effort guided this year by the NIAA Antibiotics Council Co-Chairs Dr. Leah Dorman, of Phibro Animal Health Corporation, and Dr. Eric Moore, of Norbrook Inc. The 2021 symposium theme is One Health, One Voice: Leveraging Future Opportunities to Enhance Collaboration.
“NIAA and NIAMRRE are both committed to cross-sectoral collaboration, which is essential in the fight against this global health threat. We are thrilled to welcome them as a new member,” said Dr. Plummer.
The National Institute for Animal Agriculture joins NIAMRRE's diverse membership roster, with members representing academic institutions, commodity groups, pharma and health organizations, retailers, nonprofits and member associations, and startup companies. Members are accepted year-round for organizations dedicated to advancing the One Health approach—a collaborative methodology to achieve optimal health outcomes between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment.
