The National Institute of Antimicrobial Resistance Research and Education (NIAMRRE) announced the appointment of leaders in the field of antibiotic resistance (AMR) to its newly-formed Leadership Council.

“Antimicrobial resistance is one of the biggest public health challenges of our time,” said NIAMRRE Executive Director, Paul Plummer. “We are thrilled to have these distinguished individuals addressing AMR knowledge gaps in the areas of antimicrobial use, stewardship, and resistance.”

The eleven inaugural members bring private, public, and academic sector experience to the council. The NIAMRRE Leadership Council is comprised of:

NIAMRRE offers a heartfelt thank you to the members of the Interim Executive Advisory Board for dedicating the past two years to laying the groundwork for a permanent council’s development.

“Collaboration is essential to find solutions for this global health threat,” said Plummer. “The interim board was able to work with us to ensure NIAMRRE had a foundation to work toward some specific initiatives laid out in the U.S. National Action Plan to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance.”

The NIAMRRE Leadership Council officially commenced on February 1, 2021. Members will provide oversight of administrative and fiduciary accountability and apply a high-level, national and global perspective to NIAMRRE strategies and program prioritization.
