The National Institute of Antimicrobial Resistance Research and Education (NIAMRRE), is pleased to announce FBB Biomed, co-founded by Dr. Howard Urnovitz, Steven Urnovitz, and Julien Rey, as a new startup industry member.

“Our vision is to be the trusted leader in coordinating One Health efforts that preserve the ability to prevent infectious diseases,” said Dr. Paul Plummer, executive director of NIAMRRE. “Early understanding of how a patient is responding to infection may help make better-informed treatment decisions, potentially leading to reduced use of antibiotics in less severe cases. FBB Biomed’s qPCR Screening Test and Ribonucleic Acid-Targeted Confirmation Test will aid in understanding disease severity in patients early—before they need antibiotics.

FBB Biomed joins NIAMRRE’s ten academic member institutions including Iowa State University, Kansas State University, North Carolina State University, The Ohio State University, UC Davis Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida, University of Georgia, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the University of Iowa, the University of Nebraska at Lincoln; three affiliate members: Farm Foundation, RTI International, and the University of Iowa’s State Hygienic Laboratory; and three startup industry members: Distynct, Innoceleris, and Sublime Stericeuticals.

Membership is available to academic, industry (commodity groups, pharma and health organizations, and retailers), affiliate (nonprofits and member associations), and startup stakeholders interested in cross-sector engagement to address global AMR challenges. Applications are accepted year-round for organizations dedicated to advancing the One Health approach—a collaborative methodology to achieve optimal health outcomes between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment.
