The National Institute of Antimicrobial Resistance Research and Education (NIAMRRE), a member organization that builds cross-disciplinary participation and bridges knowledge gaps around antimicrobial resistance (AMR), is pleased to announce Mazen Animal Health, Inc. (Mazen Animal Health) as a new startup industry member.

“Reducing antibiotic use in human and animal health is part of the focus of the National Action Plan for Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria,” said NIAMRRE Executive Director, Dr. Paul Plummer. “This plan recognizes the relationships between the health of humans and animals. Mazen Animal Health is developing edible livestock vaccines and other biologics, which can help contribute to a reduction in antibiotic use in animals through disease prevention.”

Mazen Animal Health joins NIAMRRE’s six startup industry members: Distynct, EveryPig, FBB Biomed, Innoceleris, Resilient Biotics, and Sublime Stericeuticals; ten academic member institutions including Iowa State University, Kansas State University, North Carolina State University, The Ohio State University, UC Davis Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida, University of Georgia, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the University of Iowa, the University of Nebraska at Lincoln; and three affiliate members: Farm Foundation, RTI International, and the University of Iowa’s State Hygienic Laboratory.

Membership is available to academic, industry (commodity groups, pharma and health organizations, and retailers), affiliate (government agencies, nonprofits, and member associations), and startup stakeholders interested in cross-sector engagement to address global AMR challenges. Applications are accepted year-round for organizations dedicated to advancing the One Health approach—a collaborative methodology to achieve optimal health outcomes between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment.
