On September 22, 2021, President Biden announced the 30 members of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), among them is distinguished scientist Dr. Catherine Woteki, who serves on the National Institute of Antimicrobial Resistance Research and Education (NIAMRRE) Leadership Council. PCAST is a body of external advisers charged with making science, technology, and innovation policy recommendations to the President and the White House.

“On behalf of all NIAMRRE members, I congratulate Dr. Woteki on her appointment by President Biden to PCAST,” said NIAMRRE Executive Director Dr. Paul Plummer. “We are excited that she will bring her commitment to addressing antimicrobial resistance, a global human and animal health threat, to the White House.”

As a member of the NIAMRRE Leadership Council, Dr. Woteki and the other ten council members bring private, public, and academic sector experience to apply a high-level perspective to NIAMRRE strategies and program prioritization. A widely respected researcher on agriculture, food science, and nutrition, Dr. Woteki is an advocate for building necessary platforms to enhance domestic and international food and agricultural research. She is Visiting Distinguished Institute Professor in the Biocomplexity Institute at the University of Virginia and Professor of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Iowa State University.
